Position Location: Baton Rouge, LA

Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose and numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.


  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements
  • Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers
  • Calculates and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
  • Set up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, verifies alignment of assembly. Installs machine replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and test operation of unit/s to ensure functionality and performance
  • Operates the welding equipment to cut and weld parts
  • Develops specifications form general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to read & write in the English language
  • Basic computer literacy
  • 3+ years of machining experience with ability set up and operate drill presses, vertical/ horizontal mills, engine lathes and other miscellaneous shop equipment
  • Ability to perform basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure in decimals and fractions
  • Able to calculate dimensions and angles
  • Ability to perform basic layout work
  • Experience in use of measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, and rulers. As well as height, thread, and pin gauges
  • Experience in CNC Mazak and Haas Mills and Lathes
